Built in 1902, the Genthner House, a magnificent three-story Colonial Victorian home and carriage house, was gifted to Louise and Ernest Genthner as a wedding present. Originally spanning 13 acres, this beloved fixture in the Guilford community has hosted numerous parties over the past century.
Over the years, the Genthner House has had several notable owners, including Micajah J. Hudson, the Hilton Family, Drake Family, and Cummings Family. In the 1970s, renowned travel photographer Steve Maines acquired the house and later sold it to John and Pat Selicious in 1984. Under their ownership, the mansion underwent a transformation and became known as The Guilford Bed & Breakfast.
Since then, the property has been managed by Lynn and Harry Anderson, Harland & Isabelle Young, and Mike & Wendy Denney. In 2024, John & Lisa McNamara took over as the newest stewards of the Genthner House/Guilford Bed & Breakfast, infusing the beautiful home in the charming New England town of Guilford, Maine, with a touch of Southern charm.
The Guilford Bed & Breakfast is situated on the south side of Elm Street, overlooking the picturesque Piscataquis River. The building features four elegantly appointed guest rooms, providing a comfortable and inviting stay for visitors. In 2023, the Genthner House was recognized for its historical significance and was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
